Not surprisingly there were more cars in 2001 than in 1991. In 1991 32% of households did not have a car, by 2001 this proportion had dropped to 26%, one of the lowest rates in Greater Manchester. Similarly, whereas 24% of households had two or more cars in 1991, this proportion increased to almost 30% in 2001.

Nationally, there was an increase in the number of lone parent families during the period 1991 to 2001, and Bury was no exception. By 2001 one in ten households consisted of a lone parent with child(ren).
