The Fusiliers Museum The Fusiliers Museum

Work will soon be starting on a £3.3m project to create a museum that will collect and display historical artefacts, stories and documents relating to both the Lancashire Fusiliers and the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers. The existing museum, which has an excellent regimental collection dating back to the 17th century and includes artefacts belonging to General Wolfe and The Emperor Napoleon, will be moving to the grade 2 listed Arts and Crafts Centre  building after it has been completely refurbished and made fully accessible to the public.

The project is seen by both the Regiment and the charitable company that will run the museum as being as much about providing a cultural and community facility as it is about preserving the history of the four regiments involved.

The new museum will be modern and friendly with interactive displays to interpret the collections. As well there will be associated facilities including a café, shop and education and meeting spaces. Also at ground floor level there will be space for the Lancashire Regimental Headquarters.

A new entrance will be formed opposite Bury Museum and Art Gallery offering views from the street into the attractive museum shop and café and The Lutyen’s War Memorial will be relocated into Sparrow Park.

This project is one of several that over the next couple of years will enhance the Bury town centre environment and compliment Bury’s culture quarter.
