European Action Plan

What is the European Action Plan?

The 'Bury - The Place for Business' Action Plan has helped to deliver a strong local economy, providing high quality employment. It has promoted sustainable regeneration, and integrated social, economic and physical regeneration through targeted action.

The Action Plan is a document developed by the Bury Local Strategic Partnership in 2001 highlighting the needs and potential of the borough and identifying how they can be fulfilled.

As a result of the European Action Plan, Bury secured £8.3 million (€13.2million) in European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) funding for the 2000-06 period, to implement business support projects.

This funding is divided into four types of activity called 'Measures':

  • Measure 1.1 Creation and Establishment of Entrepreneurial Business Starts
  • Measure 1.2 Increasing the Competitiveness of Established SMEs
  • Measure 1.4 Developing the Regional Knowledge Economy - Supporting Business Innovation and Networking
  • Measure 1.5 Investment in Premises for New and Expanding SMEs

Local SMEs (Small-Medium sized Enterprises), community groups, charities and voluntary groups were invited to bid for funding under each of the four Measures above. Refer to the Projects page to view the type of activity that took place within Bury.
